Designer Ritu Beri shares details of her wedding in an exclusive interview with Delhi Times Five days to go, the celebrations have begun. But as her parents sit happily, Ritu Beri is her usual self, casual and busy with her work as designer, still working on her collection for an upcoming show in Shanghai. But the excitement is palpable. Somewhere, Ritu is going through the usual pre-wedding pangs -- a bit of excitement and a bit of stress.
It still hasn't sunk in that it's actually happening," says Ritu. On Tuesday, there was a family puja to seek divine blessings for the couple. The celebratory mood is clearly evident at the Beri home, which has been decorated in strings of marigold flowers, rose petals and floating candles spread across the three storeys. It's never easy to leave your house and family -- that's the most difficult part of getting married," says Ritu. But that she has known Bobby for a long time has probably helped her take the plunge. With him, I know I can continue to be my self; do whatever I am doing." Bobby, the groom, has been a close friend of Ritu's for eight years now. Surprisingly though, marriage was never on the cards all along and neither had broached the subject till recently. Bobby, who's in the aviation business, stayed at West End in South Delhi earlier but has now moved into his farmhouse at Chhatarpur. "Bobby has been like the rock of Gibraltar in my life. He has always been around, through thick and thin," says Ritu. "Bobby is a great guy. Ritu and Bobby are really great for each other and we wish them all the best," says a friend of the couple. Rose is the wedding theme and this is accentuated by rose pink being the colour of the decor at the venues, and the wedding and mehendi cards having a rose running across the background. The wedding will be a very traditional affair at a farmhouse in Gadaipur. The afternoon function, restricted to close friends and relatives, will be preceded by a family mehendi on November 22 hosted by Ritu's brother Navin and sister-in-law Rohini. At the Beri home, Ritu's maid walks past with her wedding lehenga -- it's a beautiful rose pink outfit with intricate golden embroidery designed by Ritu herself. Bobby will tie the knot in an off-white sherwani. After the wedding, Bobby and Ritu will host a dinner -- meant to be a fun party for friends -- on November 25 at their Chhatarpur farmhouse, where Ritu will shift after the nuptials. Honeymoon? Almost immediately after the wedding, Ritu will fly to Shanghai for a fashion show!
